Swiss leather brand de Sede enters Indian market

The leather brand from Klingnau, Switzerland, de Sede, has entered the Indian market with a showroom on MG Road, New Delhi.

Known for its furniture and leather bags, de Sede has launched its first ever handbag collection in India at its showroom in the capital. The brand has launched a range of handbags, shoppers, clutch bags, twin bags, weekenders, and messenger bags as well as a diamond studded bag and diamond clutch. The bags are prices at between Rs 1 lakh ($1,450) and Rs 1.6 crore.

The de Sede bags are made from young bull leather which, according to the brand’s press release, is weather resistant and dirt and water repellent. The bags are made in Switzerland and feature hand sewn details.  

"The range of bags are for the luxury class, very aesthetic looking couple with extreme durability, spacious interior, intelligently arranged inner compartments making it a stowing wonder… Diamonds selected are of the most stringent quality criteria and artistically set in elliptical gold frames. The precious gold appliqués are the work of the Blum jewelry establishment in Zurich and are hand-cast in white, rose or yellow gold, "said Sonal Saxena of de Sede India in the brand’s press release.

The brand began life as a family business in Klingnau, Switzerland, in 1962 and became a joint-stock company in 1965 called de Sede AG. The brand expanded from luxury leather furniture into handbags in 2017 and launched its first ever handbag collection at Mode Suisse in Zurich that year.
