On January 23, bespoke saree brand Swati and Sunaina will hold an exclusive showcase titled 'Woven Gold from the Gyaser Tradition' at multi-brand luxury fashion retailer Ogaan’s Malcha Marg store, in New Delhi.
Swati and Sunaina’s one-day exhibition on Thursday will showcase the brand’s latest collection of sarees, which are handwoven in the Gyaser tradition using 98.5% silver plated with 24 carat gold, Ogaan announced on Facebook. The brand’s collection of “contemporary heirlooms” feature striking floral motifs and rich, metallic gold.
The brand also recently held a symposium titled 'Gyaser' in the capital on January 18, at Gallery Art Motif, Swati and Sunaina announced on Facebook. The symposium explored the art and tradition of silk and metallic woven textiles to trace their traditions from China, to the Himalayas, to Banaras. The event was presented by the Art of Gold, and featured presentations by Anjan Chakravarty, Monisha Ahmed, Ritu Sethi, and Mayank Mansingh Kaul.
Swati and Sunaina, which launched in Kolkata in 2007, aims to “bring back the lost treasures of Indian woven textiles and offer them to a discerning audience that truly appreciates craft,” according to the brand’s website. The brand has five product lines: pure zari, Jaamdaani, Banarasi, Bhargavi, and lehengas.
