On Tuesday, Suneet Varma presented his couture collection on the runway of India Couture Week in partnership with DLF Emporio. The collection was full of pastel hues and glitter, as would be expected from traditional wear couture, but had a more subtle aesthetic to reflect Varma’s inspiration for the collection.

“‘Amara’ means the light within,” Varma told the Hindustan Times about his collection. “I have met a lot of people over the course of work in this industry in the last 31 years. The more people I meet, the more girls I dress, my believe that there is light within everyone gets stronger. Some of them are aware of it, and a lot of people don’t know this. I am more interested in the light that is within a bride.”

In order to highlight the collection’s focus on natural and inner beauty, models were styled with minimal make up and wore blossoms in their hair paired with Grecian braids. The runway had an ethereal, fairytale feel and the sparkling jewellery provided for the show by Mehta and Sons only added to this.

India Couture Week is organised by the Fashion Design Council of India and runs from July 22 to 28 in the capital. This year, the event is run in partnership with the Hindustan Times and is sponsored by Swarovski, MAC, and Visit Monaco.
