Suneet Varma aims to explore Qatar market following runway debut

Designer Suneet Varma made his runway debut in Qatar on April 26 at the Heya Arabian Fashion Exhibition in Doha and now hopes to explore the country’s market further.

Varma made his Qatar debut with a runway show featuring 16 ensembles from his latest couture collection that were created especially for the Qatar show. The collection of opulent traditional wear took Indian heritage and added a Middle Eastern flavour to appeal to the local audience and celebrate the local culture. Metallics, headdresses, and heavy embroidery all featured. 

Varma’s showcase at the 15th Heya Arabian Fashion Exhibition which concluded on April 30 was in collaboration with the Indian Embassy in Qatar and took place as part of the Qatar India 2019 Year of Culture.

“This year marks Qatar India Year of Culture so we’ve decided to do something which is a mix between Indian and Middle Eastern tradition so we have created some of those beautiful kaftans and long jackets,” Varma told the Qatar daily The Peninsular at the event.

Varma’s designs were shown on the runway as well as at his stall in the Indian Pavilion at the event along with other Indian designers S3 by Sonali Raman, Pero, and 3Clothing. 

“It’s my first time in Heya,” Varma told The Peninsula. “When I was invited by Heya and the Qatar National Tourism Council… I realised that this is one of the most successful couture exhibitions in Qatar and I’m very excited to be part of it. They’ve been incredible and fantastic hosts; even putting the fashion show together was very easy.”

Varma also told The Peninsular that he found Qatar to be an exciting market and hopes to explore it in the future. Varma also took part in a celebrity talk hosted by Sonali Raman there where he discussed his brand.
