E-commerce platform Snapdeal is in talks with several brands and their authorised sellers in India as it plans to directly list their products, to weed out sellers selling counterfeit products.

The e-commerce firm has almost sealed a deal with FMCG major Hindustan Unilever Limited (HUL) and plans to partner with many such companies going forward.
Snapdeal has removed as many as 8,000 sellers from its platform for selling counterfeit products through its anti-counterfeiting program ‘Brand Shield’ this year.
The company had also recently launched a ratings system and using data analytics to keep a check on sellers on its platform.
“The direct listings of products like sports shoes, hair oil and fashion accessories that see high online demand will ensure that users have easy and high-visibility access to genuine products, reducing the scope for counterfeiters,” the company said in a statement.
“The company looks forward to developing close working relationships with an expanding pool of brands to keep online space secure and reliable for all users. Snapdeal has zero-tolerance for the fraudulent acts of any rogue sellers,” it added.
Snapdeal currently has more than 500,000 registered sellers, who have more than 200 million listings on the marketplace.
