Majority of the new sellers that have joined the platform specialise in fashion, accessories and small appliances segments. The company claims that nearly 2,100 new sellers of the 50,000 new sellers have already crossed Rs 10 lakh (approx $14,000) in monthly sales within the first four months of their joining.

Snapdeal has also managed to on-board sellers from smaller towns like Dharwad, Ranchi, Varanasi, Moradabad, Raipur, Nasik, Kanpur, and others.

“The rapid growth in the business volumes of new sellers is on account of their intuitive understanding of how buyers assess value. They have a personal understanding of the needs, trends, and aspirations of value-conscious buyers and are able to accurately build and price their merchandise to serve these the needs of this audience,” a Snapdeal spokesperson said in a statement.

“Another reason for the continuing increase in seller base for Snapdeal is on account of its pure marketplace model, where Snapdeal neither holds any inventory nor has any proxy sellers working on its behalf. This enables all the sellers to have a genuine, level playing field,” the spokesperson added.

Snapdeal is also in the process of cleaning up its seller base and had recently launched the ‘Brand Shield’ initiative to get rid of unscrupulous sellers who sell counterfeit products on its marketplace.

Snapdeal is an online marketplace, which acts as intermediary connecting buyers and independent third-party sellers, who own all the products sold on the platform.
