Snapdeal strengthens legal team with three senior appointments

Indian online marketplace Snapdeal has strengthened its in-house legal team with the appointment of three senior legal executives.

The company has appointed Prankur Chaturvedi from Johnson & Johnson to head its contract and compliance department while Mansi Airi has been hired to build in-house expertise in cross border and domestic M&As and technology transfers.
 
Former Flipkart head of disputes Vijay Srivastava has also joined Snapdeal and will be heading the litigations and disputes department. The company’s in-house legal team currently has 10 members.

“In the face of evolving regulatory and legal environment and expanse of the e-commerce sector, we are focused on building an in-house lean team of experts powered by technology to help stay agile,” Smriti Subramanian, general counsel of Snapdeal, told the Economic Times.
 
Businessman Anand Piramal had recently invested an undisclosed sum in Snapdeal which the company is expected to use to strengthen its operations and teams.
 
Snapdeal is slowly making a comeback into the e-commerce market in India on the back of strong sales especially from the tier 2, 3 markets.
 
It had managed to narrow its losses by 71 percent to Rs 186 crore ($27.1 million) in the financial year 2018-19 as against losses of Rs 611 crore it had reported during the previous fiscal.
