The company will onboard sellers from India’s production hubs including Meerut, Ludhiana, Tirupur, Jaipur, Panipat, Surat, and Rajkot, among others.

The addition of new sellers is expected to widen Snapdeal’s reach in the Indian market, and also deepen its selection for leather products, apparel, and ladies fashion.

Commenting on the expansion of its seller base, Snapdeal spokesperson in a statement said: “E-commerce has immense potential to stimulate economic growth by increasing efficiency and improving access. By taking specific measures to link domestic demand with domestic production, we aim to maximise the benefits of e-commerce for small and medium businesses and for the consumers.”

“While the first phase of e-commerce sales in India was led by traders and distributors who worked closely with brands, now the share and role of manufacturers in online sales is growing faster,” the spokesperson added.

The company continues to focus on value-priced merchandise to cater to tier 2, 3 and 4 cities across India and plans to get more customers to shop on its platform. For its sellers, it offers a host of benefits such as ratings system, and uses data analytics to help boost sales.

Snapdeal currently has more than 500,000 registered sellers, who have more than 200 million listings on the marketplace.
