E-commerce platform Snapdeal’s CEO and founder Kunal Bahl has been appointed as chairman of the Confederation of Indian Industry’s e-commerce committee for the year 2020-21.
As Bahl steps into his new role in the CII, the organisation will focus on the upcoming government e-commerce policy, consumer protection regulations, and the intermediary status of e-commerce platforms in the immediate future, the Press Trust of India reported. Bahl will work with the organisation to increase exports through e-commerce.
“While as a nation we are living through unprecedented times, it is precisely in times like this that we need to come together and work for the larger good,” Bahl said about his appointment, the Press Trust of India reported.
“The on-going year is an important one for India's e-commerce sector as various key policies, rules and regulations are under discussion and finalisation,” the CII said in a statement. “The committee will work closely with the government to support harmonisation of various laws under finalisation with the aim to ensure ease of business and compliance for the industry.”
On July 11, the CII launched the Centre for Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Startups, it announced on Facebook. The new centre was inaugurated at an online event by Telangana government minister KT Rama Rao and was also supported by the government of Telangana.
The CII will also hold its first ever ‘Indo-ASEAN-Oceanic Business Summit and Expo’ online from August 4 to 6, it announced on Facebook on July 15. The digital trade show aims to bring together international businesses online to promote regional economic development.
