Indian e-commerce firm Snapdeal is in legal trouble as a local Congress leader Indermohan Singh Honey has alleged that the etailer sold fake products to him.
Acting on the complaint of Singh, the police have registered a case against Snapdeal founders Kunal Bahl and Rohit Bansal under section 420 of the Indian Penal Code.
Singh in his complaint said that instead of a Woodland belt and a wallet, he was delivered fakes. He claimed that the authenticity of the products was checked by the staff at the Woodland showroom and certified it as “duplicate and fake”, according to a report by PTI.
Earlier, the consumer rights’ body Consumer Education and Research Centre (CERC) had filed a complaint against Snapdeal to the Drug Controller General of India for selling counterfeit products.
To fight the problem of fake goods, Snapdeal had launched an anti-counterfeiting programme called ‘Brand Shield’ aimed at fighting counterfeit products being sold on its platform by unscrupulous sellers.
Snapdeal had recently strengthened its in-house legal team to take care of the growing litigations and disputes at the platform.
