Snapdeal adds over 5,000 manufacturer sellers to its platform so far this year

So far this year, Snapdeal has on-boarded over 5,000 manufacturer sellers to its multi-brand e-commerce platform, seeing its greatest increase in sellers in the September quarter.

Snapdeal has increased its manufacturer sellers ahead of the festive season in categories including apparel - Snapdeal- Facebook

Snapdeal announced that it has exceeded its seller on-boarding target by adding over 5,000 sellers to its platform in the nine months of the year so far, the Press Trust of India reported. The pan-India lockdown and continued coronavirus health and safety measures have contributed to more sellers joining the platform, causing an especially large increase in the most recent financial quarter, according to the business.

The increase in manufacturer sellers (as opposed to sellers who sell products made by other businesses) will help shift some of the excess stock which resulted from lockdown.

Shifting excess products is especially important for clothing and fashion related businesses as the stock will go out of season if it remains unsold and many of the new sellers are in the fashion category, Snapdeal said.

Manufacturers can also move stock faster to customers which will aid swift deliveries over the festive season. Snapdeal allows its manufacturer sellers to ship goods directly to buyers which eliminates the need for them to pass through a Snapdeal logistics centre, thus speeding up delivery times.

As part of its preparation for the upcoming festive season, Snapdeal recently opened 25 logistics centres in metros including in Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Delhi. The business has also recently opened logistics centres in small towns including Yamuna Nagar, Rajkot, Bhiwandi, and Agra among others.
