The art event took place at the ICCR in Kolkata’s Ho Chi Minh Sarani, the brand announced on Facebook. Designed to showcase fine art to a mix of enthusiasts and professionals, the event featured over 1,000 pieces of artwork including paintings, photographs, movie posters, and installations.

“We started it in 2021 to create a level-playing field for artists across various levels of acceptance in the society,” said Shyam Sundar Co Jewellers’ director Rupak Saha, Indian Retailer Bureau reported. “Bengal is a cultural hot bed. It’s important to recognise brilliant art, and not just the stature of artists. This time, we have received submissions from Tripura, Maharashtra, Delhi, Gujarat, Nagaland, and Bangladesh. About 65% of the participants are women, and 20% are first-time exhibitors.”

Over 100 artworks had sold even before the event’s official opening on March 17, according to Saha. The event was part of the jewellery brand’s corporate and social responsibility initiatives which have also includes film screenings and physical education drives. The Kolkata Art Fair experienced a daily footfall of around 8,000 people on the first day and around 4,000 people on the subsequent three days.
