Shoppers Stop plans to open India's largest beauty store in Kolkata this year

Department store and multi-brand retailer Shoppers Stop plans to open the largest beauty store in India to date in Kolkata this autumn festive season. The retail space will function as a concept store and the business plans to continue to open standalone beauty stores across India. 

“In the next few months, we would be opening the biggest beauty store on the country in Kolkata,” said Shoppers Stop’s managing director and CEO Venu Nair at a retail summit on May 6, the Press Trust of India reported. “This will be during October – November.” 
 
Shoppers Stop operates department stores across India as well as beauty specific stores, according to its website. Beauty sales contribute around 17% of the business’ total revenue and and Shoppers Stop opened 11 beauty-centric stores last year. This year, the business plans to open between 15 and 20 beauty stores and will continue to keep this target for the coming three years. 

Shoppers Stop will also continue to expand its multi-category stores and will open between 12 and 15 department stores every year for the next three years. This business’ expansion is resulting in a boost to its revenue and the 2023 financial year saw Shoppers Stop report a revenue total of Rs 5,066 crore, ET Bureau reported.
