Shoppers Stop is expanding its private label brands and beauty offering as it widens its brick-and-mortar footprint across India. The fashion, beauty, and lifestyle retail business is expanding its offering on the back of a 20% year-on-year revenue increase in the third quarter of the 2023 financial year.

“Our investments are broadly on our strategic pillars- private brands, beauty, and store expansion,” Shoppers Stop’s managing director and CEO Venu Nair told ET Retail. “In the case of private brands, we are investing to convert these labels and grow them into brands. For beauty, the investment is in the SS Beauty stores and in distribution.”

For its beauty segment, Shoppers Stop has partnered with international brands including L’Oreal, Mac Cosmetics, and Bobbi Brown among others for exclusive distribution rights. The business is also investing in its beauty distribution network.

“SS Beauty began with a couple of stores pre-pandemic,” said Shoppers Stop’s customer care associate and president of beauty Biju Kassim, Indian Retailer Bureau reported. “The pandemic provided special circumstances to the world, challenging the young brand with new ways to approach the target audience. Post-pandemic, the brand is pursuing this target group aggressively with intuitive collaborations and a holistic product offering.”

Shoppers Stop is also working on bolstering its natural and Ayurvedic product ranges to increase market share in the sector. “In its true form, application of Ayurveda is slow, tough, and cumbersome, although its benefits are of the highest level,” said Kassim. “Today, few direct-to-customer brands have managed to successfully offer a solution that is easy to use, comfortable, and effective. That is where Ayurveda stands out.”
