Shein could re-launch in India with Amazon

Chinese fast-fashion retailer Shein appears set to return to India after over a year of absence, this time on Amazon India as opposed to its dedicated e-commerce site where it operated previously.

Shein could return to India later this month

Amazon India users noticed a banner on Amazon India’s e-commerce platform announcing that Shein will launch on the e-commerce site as part of its upcoming Prime Day sale event. Although the banner no longer appeared on the site some hours later, a number of users had taken screenshots, Livemint reported. Amazon’s Prime Day sale for India is scheduled to run from July 26 to 27.

It remains unclear whether Shein plans to launch on Amazon as a registered seller or as a sub-platform on Amazon India’s website. Neither Shein nor Amazon India have yet made an official statement on the matter.

Shein temporarily paused its operations in India on July 11, 2020 in response to the Government of India’s decision to ban numerous Chinese apps, the business had announced on Facebook in a message which is still at the top of its Facebook page. The government said it had banned the apps over data security concerns.

Shein retails clothing, accessories, and lifestyle goods in the value segment of the market and mainly caters to a Gen Z and millennial audience.
