Luxury traditional wear brand Shanti Banaras has opened its first flagship store in Mumbai. Located in the city’s premium shopping district Kala Ghoda, the store measures 3,800 square feet, includes an art gallery, and was designed by And Design Co.

“Set in a heritage building, the store takes the vision of Shanti forward by celebrating some of the finest weaves from Banaras,” said brand head Khushi Shah in a press release on May 5. “We were born from the vision of exhibiting authentic Indian artisanship and the richness of hand-woven Banarasi silk and this store is our way of being a piece of that heritage back to Bombay.”

And Design Co’s interior design heads Rupesh and Archana Baid conceptualised the store as a rich toned space with yellow-gold accents, creating the feel of a boudoir. The store houses a selection of men’s and women’s occasion wear with intricate embellishments and traditional style silhouettes.

“Similarly, it was important that the architectural principles were inspired by the form of the classical era, emotions of romanticism and the charms of tradition which were actualised by the harmonious amalgamation of richly muted colours, opulent textures, delicate compositions, and earthy material palette,” said Archana Baid.

Shanti Banaras specialises in traditional Zari work and its store launch also debuted its all-new menswear and ready-to-wear collections. These are displayed along with the brand’s couture offering amongst Corinthian classical pillars, decorative accent pieces, and detailed gold-leafed ceilings.
