Shantanu and Nikhil celebrate 20th anniversary with ready-to-wear launch
Design duo Shantanu and Nikhil have launched a new men’s and women’s ready-to-wear brand ‘S&N by Shantanu and Nikhil’, with several store openings planned, as the pair celebrate 20 years in the Indian fashion industry.
Shantanu and Nikhil first previewed their new subsidiary on Instagram; the platform being a nod to S&N’s millennial target audience. Next, the brand plans to open two flagship stores for S&N by Shantanu and Nikhil in New Delhi in DLF Promenade and DLF Avenue. Following launches in the capital, the brand plans to open stores in Mumbai, Chandigarh, and other cities.
The new brand launched with a minimalist collection of unisex accessories and garments including blazers, sherwanis, saree-gowns, kurtas, trousers, waistcoats, and jumpsuits among others. The line has an androgynous aesthetic and monochrome colour palette.
“S&N stands for inclusivity,” designer Shantanu Mehra told Vogue India.
“We intend to be the voice of self-aware millennials who are always on the lookout for best, who are running restless behind their causes but have a very composed look.”
“This is a landmark year for us as we not only celebrate our 20 years of being in the business of fashion, but also our strategic joint venture with India’s most revered retail company Aditya Birla Fashion Retail Ltd (ABFRL) gives us an opportunity to incubate an Indian fashion narrative that can be driven to a global audience,” said Shantanu Mehra.
ABFRL acquired a 51% stake in Finesse International Design Private Limited, the business behind the Shantanu and Nikhil brand, in July 2019. The acquisition was part of a plan to bring the brand to a wider audience.
“S&N, our first bridge to luxury offering is the beginning of many such ideas.”
