Handbag brand Shaka saw continued growth this year despite the pandemic, and has begun developing a shopping app which will feature augmented reality and artificial intelligence.

As an online-only brand, Shaka was able to capitalise on the increased popularity of e-commerce during the pandemic and managed to continue to grow this year.

“The brand grew stronger even during the pandemic, as we are on run-rate to grow by 150% this year in revenue terms,” Shaka’s co-founder Shaka Bhat told Elle India. “This just adds confidence in the brand for our customers and investors alike.”

After recommencing work at its factory in Kolkata in June after the pan-India lockdown lifted, the brand is gearing up to launch its new handbag collection on its e-commerce store. The brand’s signature bags are designed to carry all of the essentials needed for a day in the office, including a laptop, and the brand has forayed into smaller handbags as well.

“We aim to grow into one of India’s best-known homegrown women’s brands,” Bhat told Elle India.

“We are investing heavily in our online presence and our website infrastructure. A Shaka app is under development as we speak. We want to bring in best in class technologies like augmented reality and artificial intelligence to give our customers an amazing experience every time they interact with one of our interfaces.”
