“I’m referred to as an enigma in the fashion industry and I think I am okay with that,” Durazi told Elle India. “Couture in India has become synonymous with bridal wear, which isn’t the case globally. Couture is an ideology, it has nothing to do with the ostentatiousness of the garment or its volume. Even a well-made silk blouse or a beautifully crafted skirt can be couture, that is what I was to bring back the focus on with this collection.”

The FDCI has shared a monochrome peek at the collection through its documentation of the pre-fashion week fitting sessions on its Facebook page. With sharply tailored suits for the men and intricately embellished gowns for the women, the collection promises carefully executed glamour.

“Mr Sunil Sethi has been instrumental in bringing me back to the ramp,” said Durazi. “He’s been persistent about how the new generation of designers, models and photographers aren’t aware of my work and as a senior designer, it’s imperative that I introduce them to it.”

The FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week will run in Mumbai from October 12 to 16. The fashion week will feature an array of sustainable fashion initiatives and phygital features.
