Sephora, the prestige beauty retailer owned by LVMH, has recently appointed Marc Abergel to the newly created post of global chief digital officer. Abergel will report to Martin Brok, CEO of Sephora.

Abergel is a specialist in the retail sector and in technology-led transformation. He lately worked at the Lego group, where he was in charge of strategy and global transformation. He also spent nearly 20 years with Apple, leading the digital giant’s retail transformation and B2B operations. He then worked in Asia, specifically China, for Tencent, tasked with developing the latter's digital eco-system, and subsequently did a five-year stint at Deloitte Digital.

At Sephora, Abergel’s mission is to accelerate the retailer's digital transformation and boost online sales growth. “To succeed in the new omni-channel environment, we now need to accelerate further the deployment of our digital capabilities, and determine how to create an optimal, unique customer experience,” said Brok.

By hiring Abergel, Sephora has made it clear that one of its priorities is boosting its e-tail footprint. Last September, Sephora announced the acquisition of Feelunique, one of the UK’s leading beauty e-tailers. It was a way for Sephora to gain a foothold in the UK, where it doesn't yet have a presence. In June 2021, Sephora announced it was set to introduce some 300 brands on German e-tail site Zalando.

Sephora currently operates 2,600 stores in 35 countries.
