Sébastien Tellier creates capsule hat collection for Maison Michel
French songwriter, art-rocker and actor Sébastien Tellier has found another outlet for his creativity, developing hats for Maison Michel, a brand within Chanel’s extended empire of high-quality accessories resources known as Paraffection.
The selection of five limited edition looks were inspired by the bespoke creations the hatter developed for Tellier to accompany the launch of his new album Domesticated and his upcoming tour.
Tellier has enjoyed a long romance within the Chanel style orbit. He famously performed live with a score of musicians at a Chanel haute couture show inside the Grand Palais in January 2014. This March, Tellier was one of several characters to appear in the Chanel spring 2020 eyewear campaign, donning a XL rectangular frame pair of shades swathed in the brand’s iconic tweed.
“Maison Michel is first and foremost the quintessence of craftsmanship, the minutiae, the love of work well done. It’s a house that is bursting with charm and gentleness. It’s a secret that we like to share with everyone,” argued Sébastien Tellier, who boasts multiple Maison Michel hats in his extensive wardrobe of millinery.
Riffing on his stage show headgear, the quintet of looks includes Power Pop sequined baseball caps; mini turban sequined headbands; rock n roll rustler snap brims finished with vintage silk ties; flashed up fedoras with scarf bands and black tweed and lurex “Nick” caps with pearl finishes.
“Sébastien brought his own spontaneity and poetry to Maison Michel, he transposed his melodies onto the hats and the result suits him so well, the hats are like an extension of his personality, it’s all there: the artist, the charisma, the talent,” comments Priscilla Royer, Paris’ coolest hatter and creative director of Maison Michel.
