In a bid to encourage Mumbai residents to donate used clothing, charitable organisation Seams for Dreams has launched the ‘SFD Truck’ in Mumbai, which will drive around the city to collect used clothing.

The SFD Truck will drive around Mumbai once a month to pick up clothing donations and then drop them off at the Seams for Dreams headquarters in the city’s Andheri district, the organisation announced in a press release.

The truck will carry out its first mission on February 1 and aims to visit a number of locations to pick-up used clothing, which will then be donated to those that need it.

The truck will start its journey in Colaba on Saturday and make its way to Andheri stopping off at donor houses on the way. By picking up the donations in one trip, the organisation aims to decrease the carbon footprint caused by sourcing the clothing.

Entrepreneur Evelyn Sharma founded Seams for Dreams to raise awareness about sustainable fashion and raise funds for various charitable projects. One of Sharma’s main initiatives is to raise awareness about the amount of water used by the fashion industry and its polluting effects on the environment.

Seams for Dreams has donated over 40,000 items of clothing to date and held six editions of its ‘Garage Sale’ used clothing sale event, its most recent in Mumbai in December, 2019.

The organisation also collaborates with a fashion academy each year to create a collection of up-cycled clothing. In 2019, Seams for Dreams partnered with FAD in Mumbai for the initiative.
