Samant Chauhan explores the beauty in melancholy at FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week

Designer Samant Chauhan presented collection ‘Winter Rain’ on Wednesday at the joint Fashion Design Council of India x Lakmé Fashion Week and told a beautiful yet melancholy story with icy metallics and intricate detailing. 

This season, Chauhan’s immersive collection created a world of permanent winter inhabited by eleven women in regal gowns. Using delicate Chikankari embellishments, swathes of black, and ethereal silvery hues, the collection showed the beauty to be found in the darker human emotions. 
 
Known for his conceptual collections, this season Chauhan used the runway to create an entire winter landscape with snow, clouds, and leaf-bare trees. The collection was refined and kept a formal air and told his story through beautiful detailing on classic silhouettes of gowns, cocktail dresses, and tailored sets. 

The collection was primarily womenswear but concluded with actor Manoj Bajpayee closing the show as the showstopper wearing a silvery suit. Both Chauhan and Bajpayee hail from Bihar and have a long standing friendship, Bajpayee told News18 about his latest role. 
 
FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week runs at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium at India Gate in New Delhi from March 23 to March 27. The physical runway shows are broadcast live on the organisers’ respective websites and social media accounts this season and designers can retail their wares at the fashion week’s designer showroom segment.
