Saaksha & Kinni explore prints at Lakme Fashion Week
Saaksha & Kinni showcased its winter/ festive collection on day one of Lakme Fashion week in Mumbai and presented its modern take on prints from across India.
On August 21, Saaksha & Kinni launched its latest womenswear collection on the runway at the St Regis in Mumbai. This season, the brand was inspired by prints and textiles from across India including Ikat from Gujarat, Leheirya prints from Rajasthan, and prints worn by the Fakirani Jatts of Kutch. Colour was also a major inspiration for the collection which took to heart the famous John Ruskin quote, “the purest and most thoughtful minds are those which love colour the most.”
The collection took traditionally menswear pieces such as suits and transformed them into feminine creations in satin and with rich, floral embroidery. Loose, strappy dresses provided day-to-night options and more tailored jackets provided a backdrop for textured appliqués. The colour palette mixed greens, purples, and pinks with champagne and black for an elegant, Bohemian appeal.
Models sported neon pink on their lips and corner-of-the-eyes and wore dreadlock-bun hairstyles tied up with colourful scarves. The look resembled a new, modern ethnic group, created from the brand’s pan-India inspirations.
“With this collection, we have gone bolder with our silhouettes by making power suits, sheer kaftans, and evening gowns with embroidered jackets,” said designer Saaksha, according to the brand’s press release. “We want to celebrate the colours and prints, in all their glory, that India has to offer.”
Lakme Fashion Week, which began on August 21, will run until August 25 in Mumbai. The fashion week, sponsored by Lakme, IMG Reliance, and Nexa, celebrates its 20th birthday this season.
