Rohit Bal was this season of India Runway Week’s grand finale designer and he presented a collection of understated yet intricately crafted festive wear on Sunday. With a colour palette of white, ivory, and gold, Bal’s modest, almost virginal silhouettes showed that paired-down traditional wear can be just as striking as glittery opulence. Gold floral designs added interest to the bottom of flowing skirts and the use of white brocade fabrics added texture.

Organised by the Indian Federation for Fashion Development, this season billed itself as “India’s first digital fashion week”. As with the other featured designers, Bal’s collection was posted on Instagram as a continuous scroll which allowed the public immediate and complete access to the collection, a move intended to democratise the concept of a fashion week.

India Runway Week ran from September 12 to 15 as a digital event broadcast on Instagram. The fashion week featured 35 designers and was accompanied by the launch of Avon Lingerie in India. Avon Mark cosmetics also created the event’s makeup looks.
