RIL's Reliance Retail Ventures Limited acquires majority stake in Abraham & Thakore

Reliance Industries Limited’s Reliance Retail Ventures Limited has acquired a majority stake in luxury fashion brand Abraham & Thakore and aims to expand the label’s global fashion and lifestyle operations. 

RRVL has invested an undisclosed sum to gain the majority stake in Abraham & Thakore with the aim of leveraging its experience in the Indian luxury market and resources for facilitating digital and retail growth to boost the label both domestically and internationally, the business announced in a press release on March 1. Following the acquisition, the brand’s designers David Abraham, Rakesh Thakore, and Kevin Nigli will continue to lead the creative direction of the brand.
 
“Abraham & Thakore’s interesting use of material and fresh take on traditional textile techniques have crafted a highly distinctive design signature for the brand,” said Reliance Retail Ventures Limited’s director Isha Ambani in a press release. “With Indian luxury customers undergoing a generational consumption shift, there is heightened appreciation of Abraham & Thakore’s timeless design, and we are excited to partner with the brand to bring its unique expression of Indian craftsmanship to consumers globally.”

“Abraham & Thakore is excited to partner with RRVL, the company responsible for redefining India’s luxury landscape,” said brand co-founder David Abraham. “Through this partnership we will be extending the presence of the brand and bring together both fashion and lifestyle collections which will include home furnishings and lounge wear.”
 
David Abraham and Rakesh Thakore launched their eponymous brand in 1992 and were joined by Kevin Nigli who is the third part of the brand’s leadership team. The brand is known for its innovative use of handloom textiles and modern take on traditional Indian crafts for both men and women.
