From escapist glitz to decorous lace, and a whole lot of textural tapestry in between, the first looks to emerge from Milan's womenswear runway extravaganza have next season nailed.

Alberto Ferretti Fall-Winter 2015/16 - PixelFormula

This season, for many Italian designers, is all about surface texture. Alberta Ferretti's enchanting Renaissance-themed A/W 15-16 collection was laden with textured fabrics and subtle sparkle. An autumnal palette of moss green, rust and gold gave elaborately embroidered silhouettes a chaste medieval feel.

Dark trouser suits and hooded coats were embellished with elaborate tapestry while ethereal come hither peasant blouses and dresses in delicate chiffon and organza, and ankle-length skirts underlined the label's feminine aesthetic.

Celebrities left, right and center will be taking a style note from Francesco Scognamiglio. The stars will be fawning over his show-stopping black sheer mesh gowns that leave little to the imagination. A highlight this season was, however, Scognamilio's romantic focus as demonstrated by lace-edged silhouettes and long dresses in pink dévoré velvet and satin.

At the N°21 show, brocade-shot layered looks and asymmetrical tailoring by Alessandro Dell'Acqua resulted in plenty of wearable office to evening attire. A wool overcoat and a sweater dress featuring embellished desert island-esque tapestry, and charcoal grey cable knitwear paired with standout gold jacquard outerwear, skirts and pants took center stage. Other cool styling features included raised surface texture and fan pleating.
