Reliance Retail's JioMart to expand into fashion for festive season
Reliance Retail’s multi-brand e-commerce platform JioMart plans to expand beyond groceries into categories including fashion for the festive season, and offer heavy discounts to drive sales.
As India’s most important festive sale season approaches, JioMart is increasing its focus on fashion, ET Bureau reported. The business will concentrate most of its festive deep discounting activities on private label clothing brands, of which it has full control of pricing, and to launch these categories in most cities where it has a brick-and-mortar presence.
Reliance Industries Limited recently raised Rs 13,000 crore ($1.95 billion) to invest in its retail business. JioMart’s pricing for a number of its product categories including fashion will be some of the lowest available in India, sources told ET Bureau.
Currently, JioMart does not have a dedicated section for fashion on its e-commerce platform. It does have dedicated sections for makeup and many personal care categories.
During the festive season, JioMart online orders will be fulfilled through Reliance Retail’s network of 11,800 brick-and-mortar stores with one-day delivery options, the sources said. The business aims to harness its heavy discounting to win over shoppers who are currently loyal to other large e-commerce platforms.
