Reliance Retail has began a pilot for its e-commerce platform Ajio and has launched kiosks in some of its Jio stores where customers can order online goods in-store with assistance.

Reliance Retail is piloting a scheme to get shoppers online for the first time - Reliance Retail

As part of Reliance Retail’s move to scale up its e-commerce platform and digitise rural India, the Reliance Industries business has launched a pilot for its offline-to-online scheme, ET Bureau reported. Reliance Retail announced the scheme at a recent investor presentation and said that the programme aims to get shoppers online for the first time.

The kiosks allow shoppers to order products from the Ajio e-commerce platform in small, rural Jio brick-and-mortar stores. Shop staff will assist the customers when they order goods as it may be their first time using the internet.

The goods will then be delivered to the store itself where customers will be able to pick them up. The scheme allows shoppers with neither internet nor a reachable postal address to shop online. The business said that the long-term plan is to connect all of its e-commerce sites with its offline Jio stores.

Ajio was launched as Reliance Retail’s e-commerce platform in July 2016 at Lakmé Fashion Week. The platform focuses on fashion and retails a number of Indian and international brands such as Point Cove, Rio Girls, and First Class.
