Jiomart will work as an e-commerce site and dedicated app to allow India’s shoppers to buy products from a wide range of brands in the new year, ET Bureau reported.

The online portal will utilise Reliance Industries’ large network of neighbourhood stores, which will function as last-mile delivery services. The site will also tap into the business’ telecom arm, Jio, for data and technology.

The online store will work with local grocers to allow it to operate in more rural locations. Reliance Industries’ chairman, Mukesh Ambani, first announced the project in January 2019, and so far, it has launched around Mumbai in suburbs including Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Kalyan with free home delivery.

“Kiranas are being registered and given POS machines with integrated billing applications,” a source told ET Bureau about Reliance’s preparations for the launch.

“Also, it enables digital transactions, promotions including loyalty, discount coupons by fast moving consumer goods firms and supply chain management.”
