Reliance Industries’ Reliance Retail plans to open Smart Points measuring between 500 and 1,500 square feet over the coming months, sources told ET Bureau. The business has asked property dealers to look for small stores to use in the North of India over the next three to four months, a real estate agent told ET Bureau. Another source told that the business aims to open 100 of the stores in both Mumbai and Delhi.

The stores will allow customers, especially from more rural areas, to order goods online and pick them up from their local Smart Point. The stores will be a smaller version of Reliance’s “Smart” stores and will sell groceries and personal care items.

The Smart Point launches are part of Reliance’s preparation to launch a pan-India multi-brand e-commerce store in a bid to compete with foreign-owned businesses Amazon and Flipkart. Reliance also plans to partners with locally owned stores across India to expand its multi-channel retail network.
