Ready-made garment manufacturers in apparel hub Indore have reported a 50% increase in orders, boosted by demand for the upcoming wedding season, as larger weddings are creating greater garment demand.

“Order bookings are very high this season due to weddings and Ramazan,” said the Indore Readymade Textile Dealers Association’s president Ashish Nigam, TNN reported. “After a long time, we have seen such an encouraging jump ahead of weddings from our traditional markets. Orders have gone up by over 50% as compared to the previous two seasons.”

The relaxing of anti-Covid-19 restrictions across the country has given many people the confidence to plan their weddings and previous lockdowns have created pent-up demand. This comes as a boon to many garment manufacturers struggling to recover amid high raw materials and logistics prices.

The high gold prices have caused some scepticism in terms of arranging weddings, especially in the south of the country where gold plays a key role in the festivities, but the bridal and festive garment orders in Indore indicate that demand is still high.

“We are fully packed for the next two months,” said readymade garment manufacturer and retailer Akshay Jain, TNN reported. “Order volumes this season are the highest in the past two years and we anticipate demand to increase further because weddings are no longer happening in a restricted manner.”
