The state government launched the drive on June 9 following a request from the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council, the traders’ body announced on its website. The local government has set up a vaccination camp in the area, which is intended to instil confidence among the workers and enable them to continue their work safely to enable the gem and jewellery industry to get back on its feet.

On Wednesday, the GJEPC Rajasthan regional chairman, Nirmal Kumar Bardiya, thanked the Rajasthan government for setting up the vaccination camp, the GJEPC reported. The initiative was also carried out with logistics support from the Sitapura Gem and Jewellery Industry Association.

Jewellery manufacturing units in Jaipur creating pieces for export are rushing to meet deadlines for orders to be shipped to the U.S. and Europe, according to the GJEPC.

A lack of workers due to the pandemic has caused some workshops to struggle to stay on top of their schedules. The aim of the vaccination drive is to enable workers to continue their work and keep the export industry afloat and the GJEPC is also pursuing other avenues for providing support to the industry.
