Rahul Mishra, who was the first-ever Indian designer to be invited to the Paris Haute Couture calendar last summer as a 'guest member', showcased a curated selection of his designs at the French Embassy’s ‘Résidence de France’, the embassy announced in a press release. The event saw Mishra present designs from his collection ‘Home’, which he previously showcased in Paris and celebrated his participation in the Paris Haute Couture calendar.

“Your latest collection ‘Home’ espouses the cause of ecology and sustainable development – a cause that France holds very dear,” said Lenain, according to the embassy’s press release. “[French] President Emmanuel Macron has, in fact, spearheaded a great initiative to promote sustainable fashion. Our modes of production and our modes of consumption must evolve so that our planet can remain inhabitable. And it is this issue that you have decided to tackle by offering a different perspective on the encounter between nature, fashion and luxury.”

“In the early stages of my life, I was taught how design and fashion can bring some solutions and changes to society,” said Mishra at the event, TNN reported. “As a designer, I make clothes and I constantly think about how the process of fashion can be a bit ombré inclusive and how I can promote sustainability. Therefore there’s a lot of hand embroidery in my designs. If you see the French fashion history, that’s what… they believed in- creating everything with their hands.”

Mishra and the French Ambassador also took the occasion to offer a tribute to Indian designer Wendell Rodricks who recently passed away. “As we speak of celebrated Indian haute couturiers attached to France, I would like to take a moment to pay tribute to Wendell Rodricks,” said Lenain in his speech.

“He had longstanding ties with our country, where he attended fashion design courses and was invited to the Paris pret-a-porter salon back in 2007.”
