Rahul Mishra returns to runway to open FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week

Designer Rahul Mishra will open the upcoming edition of FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week with a showcase at the Italian Embassy in New Delhi. This will be Mishra’s first physical runway show in two years. 

The upcoming edition of FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week will be “season-fluid” for the first time ever and Mishra will present a seasonless collection on the runway to kick it off, the Fashion Design Council of India announced on its website. Mishra’s collection is titled ‘The Enchanted Garden’ and it will evoke, “a stroll through a garden of my nostalgic experiences and personal aspirations of building a studio home in the Himalayas,” the designer told Vogue India. 

“Our endeavour is to highlight the great work of our designers to the global community,” FDCI president Sunil Sethi told Vogue India. “We are delighted that this season’s FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week is going to have a truly international appeal through our partnership with the Italian Embassy and Rahul Mishra who continues to make strides globally.” 

During the pandemic, Mishra presented collections digitally at Paris Haute Couture Week and the FDCI's India Couture Week. The venue for Mishra’s return to the runway is also significant as he studied fashion in Italy before launching his eponymous brand. 
 
“I have wanted to create a studio home in the Himalayas for a while now, which is still a work-in-progress,” said Mishra about how the collection came about.

“That dream home is a reflection of my experiences in the places I’ve visited in the past- especially my time in Italy, when I studied in Milan. The cultural inferences, the way the natural landscape meanders into their homes through kitchen gardens and flower-laden open patios has influenced my point of view. So this concoction of philosophies, experiences and cultures I have absorbed on my multiple travels have built this mood board, translating into a fantasy that I aim to present in my clothes with this show.”
