Designer Rahul Mishra presented his Spring 2022 couture collection ‘The Enchanted’ with a live online showcase as part of Paris Couture Week. The collection celebrated nature, florals, and fantasy.

The collection launched with a flurry of ethereal frills of shirred tulle with models illuminated in coloured light as they glided around in Mishra’s fashion film. Flowers and butterflies on anarkalis and gowns gave the impression of a blooming garden as Mishra was inspired by the nature around his home studio in Uttarakhand.

The collection had a bright colour palette with more than a hint of whimsy. Traditional Indian craft techniques took centre stage, a signature of Mishra’s, but they were modernised and used to create almost surreal textures and vibrant, painterly landscapes.

Mishra’s couture showcase was broadcast on Paris Haute Couture Week’s official website on January 26. Viewers could see the live couture presentation online, bringing Mishra’s fusion style designs to a much wider audience than a traditional runway show. The presentation marked Mishra’s third season showcasing a couture collection online for Paris Couture Week.

“When I started showing ready to wear internationally, we faced issues scaling up,” Mishra told Vogue India, about what led him to focus on couture in recent seasons.

“I want to dress women in their everyday lives.”

According to the designer, his eponymous brand’s customer base has nearly tripled during the pandemic, meaning scaling up may come sooner rather than later.
