On day three of the Fashion Design Council of India’s India Couture Week, Rahul Mishra presented a collection of opulent traditional wear on a runway decorated with lush foliage and natural elements. The collection drew on Mishra’s recent trip to Monaco, and Visit Monaco was incidentally one of the sponsors of the fashion week.

Floral motifs featured throughout the collection. “For men and women, I don’t see any difference in terms of the motifs used,” Mishra told the Hindustan Times at the show.

“Similar kind of motifs goes for both the genders. I’m now experimenting with the silhouettes. I find it very stereotype that a particular kind of silhouette is for the men and another for women.”

Mishra presented the collection following his recent debut in Paris. Mishra presented a collection in the French capital concurrent with Paris Haute Couture Week and hopes to be included in the event’s official calendar in the years to come.

“It was a new journey for me to showcase a short western dress that I showcased at Paris into something which fits to the Indian couture idea, say a ‘gherdaar’ lehenga,” said Mishra. “We have been working on the collection since November.”

India Couture Week runs from July 22 to 28 at the Taj Palace in New Delhi. The fashion week also featured designers including Pankaj & Nidhi and Suneet Varma.
