Raghavendra Rathore launches the Gurukul School of Design in Jaipur
Fashion designer Raghavendra Rathore just launched the Gurukul School of design in Jaipur and will offer a four year course covering all aspects of the fashion industry.
According to Rathore, “Education is the best gift that one can give to an aspiring mind,” and this was his impetus for setting up the Gurukul School of Design. The school will offer courses on fashion design, illustration, business, management, communication, and marketing in Jaipur, a city known for its textiles and handicrafts.
Speak on his latest venture, Rathore said, “The aim is to impart specialised knowledge to students so that they can become entrepreneurs as soon as they graduate.” In this way, students will be encouraged to study abroad in fashion capitals and the last three years of the course will specifically focus on how to launch and manage a fashion label.
“We are going through a silent revolution in the country wherein we are shifting from a manufacturing to a design oriented outlook," Rathore stated. "This shift will require a huge talent in the future and we need to be prepared to optimally leverage this design revolution.” Design, along with more practical elements, will therefore be the course’s focus. The first batch of students will start their education in August 2018.
Raghavendra Rathore is a fashion designer and also works in wedding and event design, interior design, accessories, and jewellery. Originally from Rajasthan, Rathore was educated at the Parsons School of Design in New York and was awarded a Designer of the Year award by GQ. Rathore launched his eponymous label in 1994 and set up the Raghavendra Rathore Foundation (RRF) that promotes traditional handicraft and offers employment opportunities.
