RIL's JioMart sees boom in Whatsapp sales

JioMart has seen its customers on messaging app Whatsapp increase by 37% month-on-month. Reliance Retail’s multi-brand e-commerce platform has also seen the number of orders placed through the app increase by nine times.

Teaming up with Whatsapp has helped JioMart to drive orders and the growth trend appears to be continuing, ET Retail reported. RIL’s JioMart and Whatsapp announced the launch of the integration of their services in August, 2022 after announcing the plan in 2021 as part of a strategic partnership between Jio and Whatsapp’s owner Meta. 
 
JioMart retails a wide array of fast moving consumer goods products in categories including fashion and beauty. In its most recent quarterly report, RIL reported that 50% of JioMart’s e-commerce platform’s total sales came from Tier 2 towns and beyond, showing that the business is increasingly penetrating the non-metro market in India. 

The business is also focusing on adding to its seller base. On a quarterly basis, JioMart’s seller base increased by 83% and the business is focusing on onboarding small and medium enterprises. In the December quarter, RIL saw its net profit rise by 6.24% to total Rs 2,400 crore for the individual quarter, ET Bureau reported.
