Purvi Doshi to showcase collection at Fashion Yatra in Hyderabad
On January 30, designer Purvi Doshi will showcase her latest collections, “Co-existence” and “Sugar Cotton Wool” at the Fashion Yatra Exhibition in Hyderabad.
Purvi Doshi, an Ahmedabad-based designer known for her use of handloom textiles, will present two collections next week at Hyderabad’s Taj Krishna hotel.
The first, “Co-existence”, is Doshi’s festive collection and showcases the designer’s love for nature with a menagerie of animals including pandas, flamingoes, giraffes, elephants, and birds reflected in garments that ask us to respect our animal neighbours. The earthy collection asks humans to take responsibility for the planet and “co-exist” instead of dominate animals.
Doshi’s other collection, “Sugar Cotton Wool”, for the autumn/winter 2019 season, plays with separates using traditional Kala cotton from the Kutch region.
The Label Purvi Doshi collection aims to promote Kala cotton globally and gives us a modern take on the textile with, “asymmetrical silhouettes, crisp pleats and candy-striped garments dusted with artisanal tassels,” according to the designer’s press release. Like with “Co-existence”, the collection has a strong environmental focus.
Fashion Yatra, a fashion and lifestyle exhibition by Kamini Saraf, is an annual event that aims to showcase the work of Indian designers.
Founded in June 2006, the annual exhibition brings together around 70 designers of traditional and fusion wear.
