Purvi Doshi opens store in Mumbai

The Ahmedabad based fashion designer Purvi Doshi has opened her first ever store in Mumbai on Peddar Road.

Purvi Doshi opened a flagship store on Mumbai’s Peddar Road this week, marking her first entry into Mumbai. The store features the whole range of Doshi designs and highlights the designer’s focus on sustainability. Doshi addresses what she refers to as, "the dire need to save resources to sustain our future generations" with garments that aim to both use non-harmful materials and create employment for traditional artisans.

Doshi recently showed her latest collection, “Beauty and the Beads”, in Surat on November 30. The collection was shown at the JJ Art Gallery and featured a selection of traditional wear and western wear outfits adorned with beadwork hand stitched by artisans. Garments featured Aari hand embroidery and mirror work made by artisans in Gujarat and the pieces are now available in her new Mumbai store and were also presented at the store’s opening party.

Doshi founded her eponymous label in 1992 and over the years she has pushed towards using only handwoven textiles with natural and organic dyes. Doshi also abstains from using textiles with production processes that harm animals and her Ahimsa silk is made without killing silkworms.
