Ahmedabad-based sustainable fashion designer Purvi Doshi has dedicated her latest collection 'Marine Runway' to animal rights group PETA’s 'Fish in tanks, No Thanks!' campaign.

Purvi Doshi hopes to raise awareness for marine wildlife - Purvi Doshi

Purvi Doshi has dedicated her spring/summer 2019 collection Marine Runway, which was designed to raise awareness of marine wildlife, to PETA India for its current campaign to treat fish with kindness. Doshi has implored her fans not to keep fish as pets in tanks and to respect marine wildlife.

The collection is 100 percent vegan and uses sustainable textiles such as Khadi and cotton Kota in various shades of ivory. Garments feature embroidered fish, sea horses, octopuses, and other marine wildlife to showcase the ocean’s diversity and encourage consumers to protect it. When the collection made its fashion show debut, models walked the runway encased in plastic from which they emerged to show fish becoming freed from plastic used to represent packaging found in the world's oceans.

The collection was also coloured with natural dyes so as not to pollute the environment. Using handwoven fabrics also eliminates the environmental harm that large-scale factory production causes. The zero-waste brand was recent awarded the Eco Age brand mark as a testament to its sustainable practices.

In December 2018, Doshi was presented with PETA’s Compassionate Designer Award for her vegan clothing collections.

“Purvi Doshi is proving that her heart is as beautiful as her exquisite cruelty-free clothing,” PETA’s India Corporate Liaison Zarna Thakkar said according to a PETA blog post.

“PETA India is recognising her for showing designers and consumers alike that the future of fashion is vegan.”
