The Education Minister of Punjab Om Parkash Soni visited worsted fabrics manufacturer OCM’s Amritsar factory and pledged that the government will work hand in hand with the textile industry for development.

OCM executives met with Punjab’s Education Minister to discuss the textile industry - OCM- Facebook

Minister Soni held a number of discussions with OCM’s executives focussing on the business itself as well as the government’s goals for the textile industry as a whole. Soni reiterated the government’s commitment to growing the country’s textile industry and stressed the need to work together for growth. As elections get under way, the Union Government is looking to reconfirm the importance of textiles in its wider “Make in India” push to increase domestic production. The need to ensure quality products and create employment opportunities was also touched upon.

Soni was welcomed by OCM’s managing director and CEO Vikram Mahaldar for his visit to the 37-acre factory. Soni pledged his support to the business and commended its near century in the industry. OCM’s president of exports P K Das, and plant head Om Prakash Jangir were also present.

OCM was founded in 1924 and started to produce worsted fabrics for the domestic and international market in 1972. The business was acquired by the promoters of the branded menswear textiles manufacturer the Donear Group in November 2017. OCM’s corporate office is located in Delhi and the business has over 1,500 employees. The OCM Quality Assurance Laboratory has obtained accreditation from the National Accreditation Body for Testing and Calibration.
