Puma partners with Goonj to promote circular fashion economy

Global sportswear brand Puma has partnered with the non-profit Goonj and launched a second-hand clothing collection drive with the aim of promoting a circular economy.

On August 22, Puma and Goonj launched its circular fashion drive across 360 exclusive Puma brand outlets in India. Customers are encouraged to donate clothing and footwear they no longer wear or need to collection boxes in Puma stores and they will be rewarded with brand gift vouchers. The initiative will run until September 10 in Puma stores across the country and online. Clothing can also be scheduled for collection by submitting an online request.

After the campaign concludes next month, the clothing and shoe donations will be collected and dropped off at Goonj processing centres in various locations across the country. Goonj teams will then carry out the sorting, segregating, repairing, and packing of the items and then distribute them to a large number of causes and peoples across India. 

“We are happy to partner with Goonj towards their efforts to uplift rural communities,” said Puma India’s managing director Abhishek Ganguly, according to the brand’s press release. “This initiative gives us a great platform to collaborate with our consumers to crowdsource essentials like apparel and footwear. We will continue to actively be a part of the circular economy and encourage more people to make a conscious choice towards sustainable living.”

“This partnership with Puma, presents a great example of how different entities can collaborate to bring awareness on the development issues and how by creating such platforms, people from all across get a chance to participate,” said Goonj’s founder and director, Anshu Gupta.
