Sportswear brand Puma has chosen the Indian market as the first location in which to launch its dedicated shopping app globally as the German business renews its investment in the country.

As demand for branded footwear and fitness wear expands in India, Puma aims to capitalise on this and launch its app in India before any other country, the Economic Times reported. The app will offer more interactive features and the chance to shop on the go with ease.

“India is a very important market for us and our local team has done an outstanding job in establishing Puma as the number one sports brand in the country,” said Puma’s CEO Bjørn Gulden, ET Bureau reported. “Given that India is a very digital-savvy market where e-commerce has high penetration, we felt it natural to launch the app here first. It will then be rolled out globally during the year.”

Puma currently has 450 stores in India after adding 51 stores in 2021. The brand saw its India sales increase by 68.2% year-on-year in the 2021 calendar year and sees the Indian market as having significant growth potential.

“With the launch of the Puma app, we will offer our customers a faster, seamless and convenient digital shopping experience,” said Puma’s India and Southeast Asia managing director Abhishek Ganguly, the Economic Times reported. “The app is powered with multiple technology-led features and that will enhance user experience. Puma was the first brand in India to realise the potential of e-commerce and launched its online shopping platform in 2016. Now with this app, we are ready to take the shopping experience to the next level and engage with consumers more closely with the help of interactive features.”
