Held twice a year in Berlin, International fashion trade show Premium is engaged in finding the most exciting young designers out there.

To do so, it also hosts the Young Designers Award, which it has held for over a decade. The aim is to help emerging talents by putting a spotlight on them and giving them a stand at the tradeshow.

The winners for the autumn-winter 2016/17 season have now been named. In the womenswear category, the prize was taken home by Nobi Talai, a graduate of Berlin’s ESMOD fashion school who has also been selected as a mentee for the Fashion Council Germany’s mentoring program. Her collection was inspired by Persian nomads and features elaborate wrapping and draping.

For menswear, Premium chose CSB London, which is designed by Christopher Brogden. He is inspired by the dandy look, and combines traditional craftsmanship with sporty elements for contemporary coolness. Brogden has previously worked as Head of Design at Donna Karen New York, and as a design consultant at Tommy Hilfiger.

London-based Camilla Elphick won the Accessories Young Designer Award with her handcrafted footwear, featuring individual prints. Her designs are inspired by the world's cities, and already sold in Europe's fashion capitals as well as Hong Kong and Beirut.

The final award, for Season's Special, a category that was first introduced last season, is given to a designer for a specific trend. This season's winner was Laain for its activewear, which juxtaposes classic sportwear elements with luxurious fabrics and a modern, minimalist elegance, and which was founded just three years ago.

Premium will now give the designers assistance across two seasons. For the first one, they get an individual trade show stand, and after the order season, they get to show their designs in the display windows of Berlin's Galeries Lafayette.

Last season, Premium also introduced the Young Talents tours, letting members of the press along with industry professionals meet with specific designers, and this event will take place again this year on January 19-21. The winners' stands at Premium will be placed in the relevant halls this season, instead of being shown on a joint stand.
