With this partnership, Phonepe is looking to tap Walmart India’s customer base to boost digital transactions on its platform. Walmart India currently has more than a million registered customers.

The partnership will allow registered members of Walmart India’s ‘Best Price’ stores to leverage different payment options on the PhonePe app, including Unified Payments Interface, PhonePe wallet, third-party wallet, credit, and debit card.

Commenting on the partnership, Krish Iyer, CEO of Walmart India, in a statement said: “This initiative reiterates our commitment to help kiranas and other small businesses to prosper. The PhonePe payment system will further help our members streamline their business processes. By using PhonePe in our B2B cash-and-carry stores, our members are contributing to India’s growth as an efficient digital economy.”

PhonePe CEO and founder Sameer Nigam added: “This solution will enable PhonePe to expand its scope of operations in the offline space with small kiranas starting to adopt this as a payment option. It will help us deepen partnership with Walmart and also expand our offline merchant network.”

Flipkart owned PhonePe is one of India’s leading digital payments companies with over 100 million users and had recently crossed 1 billion digital payment transactions.
