Personal care and health major product categories in 2022: Meesho

Indian e-commerce marketplace Meesho found that shoppers prioritised product categories including health, personal care and hygiene, and fashion in 2022 as the platform onboarded a total of 500,000 suppliers.

Out of the five lakh new sellers Meesho onboarded in 2022, 61% were new to e-commerce in general and were selling online for the first time, the business announced in a press release on December 21. Meesho saw sellers from Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh leading the highest revenue earned this calendar year and over 6,000 of Meesho’s sellers had revenue over Rs 1 crore in the same time period. 
 
In terms of popular product categories, men’s grooming products, women’s hygiene products, fitness goods, and smartwatches came out on top. The platform reported selling 148 sarees per minute as well as 93,000 t-shirts, 51,725 bluetooth earphones, and 21,662 lipsticks per day. 

Men’s grooming is booming in rural areas and over 60% of orders in the segment came from Tier 4 towns. Sales of fitness equipment increased threefold as health became a top priority, a continuation of a trend that began in the pandemic. Sunday proved to be the busiest online shopping day for Meesho in 2022, moving from Wednesday in 2021. 
 
Meesho targets small businesses and aims to enable them to scale up with little investment. The business runs with a zero commission model and this enabled its sellers to save a total of Rs 3,700 crore in 2022, Meesho reported.
