Fashion students at Peal Academy presented an array of deconstructed, androgynous, and post-apocalyptic looks for FirstCut showcase ‘Dystopia’s Children’ on Sunday at the Fashion Design Council of IndiaLakmé Fashion Week.

The future of fashion looks bleak but beautiful. A group of Pearl Academy’s students explored ideas of future and collapse on the runway with bold, tactile looks mixing oversized jackets with layered separates.

Models wore bald caps and minimal makeup, save for some wearing oversized fake lashes, to create an alien-esque aesthetic. Accessories ranged from medical equipment to keys to utility bags and footwear remained practical.

The showcase had a varied colour scheme to reflect the diverse students participating but neutrals dominated along with splashes of orange and green. Layers of raggedy organza and asymmetrical ruching brought to mind Japanese brands Comme des Garçons and Yoji Yamamoto and the inclusion of a number of more traditional textiles gave the looks a decidedly desi flavour.

FDCI x Lakmé Fashion Week ran at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium at India Gate in New Delhi from March 23 to March 27.

The physical runway shows were broadcast live on the organisers’ respective websites and social media accounts this season and a group of designers retailed their wares at the fashion week’s designer showroom segment.
