Paytm Mall separates functions from parent company One97 Communications

Paytm’s e-commerce platform Paytm Mall has separated all functions with its parent company One97 Communications, as it restructures its business strategy to use Paytm Mall to bring traffic to the rest of the Paytm business.

Just months after receiving funding from U.S. firm Ebay, Paytm Mall has separated its business functions from Indian mobile internet business One97 Communications.

The e-commerce arm of Paytm said it has also restructured its employees, so that there is no common team member across Paytm’s e-commerce business and its other entities.

"We are rebuilding," Paytm Mall’s chief financial officer and board member Rudra Dalmia told ET Tech. 

In further restructuring, Paytm Mall has also now fully integrated deals platform, Nearby, into its business. Paytm Mall acquired Nearby in December 2017 and has since used the digital app to map neighbourhood offline stores. Paytm Mall aims to use this information to tap into advertising, point of sales, and marketing opportunities.

Paytm Mall has also launched Ebay’s global store and partnered with Future group. These actions are designed to drive customers to use all of Paytm’s payments services.

"The mission continues to be - making users transact on all Paytm products including movie ticketing, travel, games,” said Dalmia. “Mall is now a big catalyst for that."
